From January 22 to 26th, this beloved lifestyle show brings home decor accessories, furniture and lighting from around the world to the City of Light. Curated boutique-style displays and personalized experiences help to organize the enormous show, including the thematic zones of “Maison” (with home décor, rugs, lighting and furniture) and “Objet” for smaller gadgetry and accessories. Luxury high-end goods and contemporary contract environments also have their own place at the show this year. Here are five don’t-miss booths to add to your itinerary.
The unstoppable brand’s new line Iridescence brings back the marbled look of oil on water, a finish that was popular during the tail end of the romanticized Belle Epoque era. This moody collection of scented candles, diffusers and vessels, all made of black glass, is pared-back and elegant, with each piece uniquely bent or ever-so-slightly melted.
A stalwart of the Canadian design scene, Martha Sturdy has expanded over the decades to create a sleek, sophisticated body of work including bowls, lights and furniture. Her line also includes “wearable art” strongly rooted in material, most notably resin, brass and wood. This year marks the Vancouver designer’s first appearance at Maison & Objet. At its heart, Maison & Objet is about the home. This Scottish duo’s gorgeous and cheeky prints, often chock-full of flora and fauna, never fail to please the eye. Wallcoverings and fabrics from their latest collection include the more subdued Damask Ikat (top), as well as Urban Chaos, a modern-day take on toile.
Italian manufactuer Gufram celebrates its 50th anniversary this year with new editions of old favourites. Their grassy Pratone chair from the ’70s is back as the limited-edition Nordic Pratone, ready to gently hold a whole new generation of design lovers. And, if you missed seeing the Blow daybed by Emanuele Magini when it launched last summer, you’ll love its ’70s-inspired shape and bold colour palette.
The collaborative UK studio will launch two new sconce options at Maison & Objet. They’ve teamed up once more with YOY to create YOYWall, a sleek wall version of their successful tabletop lamp, which projects its own lampshade onto the wall. And Bolt, by studio co-founder Steve Jones, offers an industrial-inspired LED sconce that doesn’t take itself too seriously.
