A Story to Tell: Mentorship Evening with Superkül at Toronto Design Offsite

BEAT (Building Equality in Architecture Toronto) is hosting an inspiring mentorship session that will be led by Toronto architect Meg Graham, principal of award-winning firm Superkül. BEAT is an independent organization aimed at promoting the advancement of women in the architecture profession through advocacy, mentorship and networking. Nika Zupanc at the Interior Design Show

Slovenian product and interior designer Nika Zupanc gained widespread attention for her Lolita lamp for Moooi, and continuous to challenge the norm through her eclectic and intimate designs, becoming one of the most closely watched talents at Milan Design Week. Along with her Azure Trade Talk, where she will share her visions and inspirations, Zupanc will be presenting her award-winning collection for . Presented by South Hill Home, the stunning series touches on athleticism, modern culture and technological innovation.

 

Jaime Hayon at the Interior Design Show

Celebrated for masterfully blurring the lines between art, decoration and design, Spanish designer Jaime Hayon will be both speaking as part of the Azure Trade Talks and presenting what is sure to be a stunning installation in collaboration with Caesarstone. Appropriately whimsical, “Stone Age Folk” is inspired by both the natural and mythical worlds, and will blend a fantastical universe with Hayon’s signature artistic expression, using nearly 50 of the quartz manufacturer’s colours for his variegated installation.

 

David Adjaye at the Interior Design Show

This year’s international guest of honour, architect David Adjaye is recognized for his adroit approach to materials and a dynamic sculptural ability, placing him firmly at the forefront of his generation. Last September’s opening of his spectacular National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington was followed by the announcement that the Tanzanian-born Adjaye will be knighted for his services to architecture by her Majesty the Queen in 2017. Adjaye will be speaking during Azure Trade Talk, revealing his remarkable vision that is influenced by everything from contemporary art and music to science and the lives of cities.

 

Ideas Forum: Living Well at Toronto Design Offsite

Complimenting TODO’s third annual Living Well exhibition, this fast-paced PechaKucha-style event (20 slides shown for 20 seconds each) will bring together a number of designers and artists to share what living well means to them, and how design can help us improve our daily lives. Speakers will include artist and writer Amanda Rataj, architect Janna Levitt, artist Cole Swanson, designer Oscar Kwong and others.
