Designing Women by Egg Collective
Gender inequality has been rightly thrust back into the global conversation across all industries and communities. Addressing the imbalance in the design world, the trio of women behind Egg Collective have organized an all-female group show to represent, support and empower women working within the industry. Opening their West Soho showroom to 16 New York-based female creatives at various stages of their careers, the community-minded collective has everything from lighting and furniture to homewares and jewellery on show. Running until May 26, partial proceeds from sales will be donated to local charity, Girls, Inc. of New York City.

Descension by Anish Kapoor
The always intriguing artist Anish Kapoor has brought his swirling installation Descension stateside for the first time. Located at Pier One, in Brooklyn Bridge Park, the exploration of water’s behavioural and sculptural possibilities manifests in a continuously writhing 7.9-metre-wide pool that tricks the eye into seeing a powerful vortex sucking the liquid down into the earth. This logic defying display can be seen until September and was curated by the Public Art Fund.

Sight Unseen Presents
An expansion of the ever-popular Sight Unseen OFFSITE, this year Sight Unseen Presents takes the show on the road with installations and projects peppered throughout a dozen retail shops and restaurants around the city. The exciting exhibits promise to embrace an inclusive and holistic approach, one that blends together fashion, food and design. From design shop Coming Soon‘s room filled with bismuth pink objects, to ceramics and textile sculptures by artist Hayden Dunham, and even a Sight Unseen branded manicure inspired by the works of L.A. artist Vasa Mihich, Sight Unseen Presents offers something for everyone. As for OFFSITE itself, the event has been streamlined down to 25 participants for the 2017 instalment, but continues to be a key platform for independent studios and brands to show-off their goods through engaging and artistic displays.

Human Nature at WantedDesign
A commentary on today’s turbulent world, this exhibition brings the work of 17 top Dutch talents to New York. Presented by Ventura Projects‘ New York edition, the show shines a spotlight on Dutch artistry and techniques, while the designs themselves speak to the hopes and fears of their creators. Organized into three themes – Manmade By Machine, New Nature and Extra Ordinary – the stunning works experiment with methods, imagination and a connection to human nature. Designers include the likes of Martens & Visser, Dirk Vander Kooji and Studio Plott.
