1 Concord by Capdell

Designed by the prolific Stockholm trio Claesson Koivisto Rune, this collection for Spanish manufacturer Capdell was inspired by the layers of light in a sunset – as viewed from a plane. This strata is conjured by the multi-tiered backrests, which can be upholstered in different colours, that rest on wood legs or steel bases. The collection, which encompasses various versions, including bar stools and loungers, was perhaps the most versatile seating shown at ICFF.

2 Regina by Phloem Studio

Phloem Studio, which Benjamin Klebba runs out of Portland, Oregan, focuses on handcrafted furnishings with a classic Americana feel. This love seat, made with domestic hardwoods and featuring a sumptuous mattress upholstered in Maharam wool, stood out for being so unassuming. A sweet little piece of furniture for an intimate space, it was one of the small wonders that grabbed attention at ICFF.

3 Chubby by Dirk Vander Kooij

In his first showing at ICFF, Dirk Vander Kooij was chosen by the ICFF Editors jury as the best new designer. The Dutch wunderkind presented his Endless line of chairs made from recycled refrigerators, melted down and squeezed out from his giant furniture printing machine. New to his collection is the Chubby chair, which he referred to as his “fast chair,” because it can be made much more quickly, and at a lower price point.

4 Ro by Fritz Hansen

Jaime Hayon put his fanciful imagination to work on this collection of wingback chairs, shown at ICFF. He also created a limited edition of Ro seats inspired by and named after cities, including Milan, Paris and New York. Upholtsterd in a matching duotone of differently textured upholstery, the seats are luxurious. But with their neutral, brushed aluminum legs that allow them to suit any interior, they are also practical.

5 Low by Viteo

Designed low to the ground so that getting up quickly is not an option, this patio collection by 13&9 Design for the Austrian manufacturer of sleek outdoor furniture emphasizes relaxation. The seats and loungers, with or without padding, that make up the core of the line are ergonomically designed, and feature holes so that they can be dragged to any spot near the pool. Shown at Wanted, this collection conjured an urban getaway on the chicest Manhattan rooftop.
