Black Friday Deals

1 Wanda Jelmini, Friday, January 23, 11 am
As International Guest of Honour and creative director of T&J Vestor for Missoni Home, Jelmini is also a fourth-generation member of the family-owned company and has plenty to share about the ins and outs of running a multinational brand. She will also curate a show-floor retrospective to honour Missoni’s 60th anniversary and will launch the show on opening night.
Update, January 19th: Due to unforeseen circumstances that prevent Wanda Jelmini from traveling, her keynote will be delivered live by video; Missoni Home operations manager Giorgio Jelmini will be present on stage to take questions from the audience in her stead.

2 Marlon Blackwell, Friday, January 23, 1 pm
A 2014 AZ Award-winner (for Best Commercial/Institutional Architecture over 1,000 square metres), Blackwell is an architect based in Fayetteville, Arkansas, and is department head at the Fay Jones School of Architecture at the University of Arkansas. Last year he was also the recipient of a $50,000 fellowship from United States Artists to honour excellence in architecture and design, and his firm has won many awards.

3 Sebastian Herkner, Friday, January 23, 3 pm
The rising design star from Germany – featured in Azure‘s Jan/Feb 2015 issue, now on newsstands – formed his studio in 2006 and now counts ClassiCon, Moroso and Rosenthal among his clients. Combining cutting-edge technologies with traditional handcrafting techniques, Herkner explores colour and materials with few preconceptions, resulting in surprisingly effective and playful forms, such as his popular blown-glass and metal Bell table.

(Friday’s Trade Talks are sponsored by Azure.)

4 Jonathan Adler, Saturday, January 24, 12 pm
After building an empire that started with a popular line of pottery in 1993, Adler has become a household name, and his products are carried by more than 1,000 retailers globally. His designs are conceived under the guiding principle: “If your heirs won’t fight over it, we won’t make it.” This talk promises to be as dynamic and colourful as Adler’s work.

5 Thom Filicia, Saturday, January 24, 4 pm
Since launching his New York firm in 1998, Filicia’s interior design work has been included on many “best of” lists, in many magazines and on TV, and includes projects for W Hotels, celebrity clients such as Jennifer Lopez and corporate commissions in a wide variety of industries, including airlines and restaurants. With a media-savvy flare, Filicia has built his brand around a distinctive flair for combining classic aesthetics with carefully curated objects.
