IIDEX Canada - Hits from the show floor 01

Toronto’s Direct Energy Centre hosts IIDEX Canada – two days of CEU-accredited seminars, parties and keynote addresses from Public Architecture’s John Peterson, Walt Disney’s Will Hastings and French designer Patrick Norguet. The biggest draw is the nearly 350 exhibitors, presenting solutions for contract spaces, from innovative office systems to luxurious furniture and textiles for hospitality settings.

After a 10-year hiatus from the design world, architect Tom Deacon created this side and stacking chair that comes with or without arms (including a tablet arm), three upholstered options and three heights, as well as optional casters. Thirteen colours are available plus six finishes for the steel frame.

2 Armitage by Cambria

Among the 2012 introductions from this family-owned quartz company are Laneshaw and Armitage, two new designs that form part of the existing Waterstone Collection. In true Cambria tradition, Armitage (shown) named after a village in England’s West Midlands, is dark and deep with blends of black and gray and hits of copper and orange.

This highly flexible system was inspired by the popular mobile office trend, combining desking and benching with components such as sliding work surfaces, flip-up doors and movable screens. It can be used to create open spaces or more privacy-focused workspaces.

This biophilia-inspired modular tile collection was originally launched at June’s NeoCon fair in Chicago, but IIDEX show goers will get a preview of UR501, the latest addition to the series that the company will officially launch in November.

For settings such as conference centres, classrooms and banquet halls, this stackable chair is ergonomic and features a flexible back that reclines up to 12 degrees. Moreover, Mode’s cushion can be unscrewed and removed for the option of either a stained or tarnished seat.
