Beginning on January 14, Cologne’s annual week-long festival will welcome design denizens from around the globe. IMM, which takes place at the Koelnmesse conference centre, is the nucleus of the festival – and the first major design fair of the year – hosting over 1,100 international manufacturers filling several halls with their latest in residential furniture, including seating, tables, storage systems, textiles and accessories.

The show’s Das Haus installation returns, presenting a fully-furnished and intimate interior by Luca Nichetto. The Venice designer, who has collaborated with such brands as Casamania, Offecct and David Design, will create a plant-filled living space that will no doubt inspire showgoers to incorporate natural elements into their homes. Another major feature, the standalone LivingKitchen expo will present the latest kitchen systems and appliances by 180-plus manufacturers, including Bosch, Schiffini and Wolf.

If you still can’t get enough, the concurrent offsite circuit Passagen encompasses over 200 parties, exhibits and installations scattered across the city. These include Design Post, a former parcel post building filled with such big-name brands as Agape, Moooi and Pastoe, where Kvadrat will present a showstopping new product by the Bouroullec brothers, named Designers of the Year by Germany’s A&W magazine; and Designers Fair, showing off the works of young talents in the Ehrenfeld district.

Here are six hot new products that will launch next week at IMM:

1 Lifescape Collection by Minotti
Italian manufacturer Minotti shows off its Lifescape Collection of outdoor furniture, including the handsome Claydon set. The table comes with a Corian top and aluminum legs, and the sultry chair is made with tubular metal, softened by polyurethane padding covered in a waterproof fibre cover.

2 Play cabinet by Interlübke
Germany’s Interlübke lets you mix and match the finishes on this modular storage piece, with options running from natural woods to a multitude of high-gloss lacquers, including gleaming metal tones.

3 Splinter for Conde House
Nendo does it again. The latest from the prolific Japanese studio, led by Oki Sato, this series of wood armchairs, coat stands, side tables and leaning mirrors are so thin that each delicate part appears to be peeling away.

4 Stammtisch by Quodes
A table that lets you prop up your feet, Stammtisch was designed by Alfredo Habërli for Quodes. Suitable for offices, hotels, restaurants and waiting areas, the ash piece features a horizontal metal bar – in a wide range of lacquers – that runs underneath the top, connecting the legs, and letting you rest your feet on it.

5 Daybed FK11 Senckenberg by E15
E15 presents several reissued German classics, including this daybed (with the unwieldy product name FK11 Senckenberg) designed by Ferdinand Kramer in 1952 for the Johann Wolfgang Goethe-University in Frankfurt.

6 Bench B by BD Barcelona
Part of a collection that pays homage to Mies van der Rohe’s Barcelona Chair, this aluminum bench ranges from a one-seater side chair to a long bench spanning six metres. Suitable for the indoors and out, it comes with or or without arms and optional upholstery.
