The Iceland Volcano Museum competition is the third in Bee Breeders’ Iceland architecture competition series and tasks participants with designing a multipurpose structure to feature local tourism attractions. This architecture competition is a collaboration with the Soil Conservation Service of Iceland, whose offices will be located within the new structure.
The key space of the submitted designs must be the multipurpose exhibition hall. The structure should include an information centre, café, as well as the aforementioned offices. As winning proposals will be considered for construction, the jury will be looking for designs that meet these practical needs and respect the unique and sensitive context while at the same time have the potential to become an iconic tourist attraction in their own right.
3 winning proposals and 6 honourable mentions will be selected. Bee Breeders will award a total of US $6,000 in prize money to competition winners as follows:
- 1st Prize: US $3,000
- 2nd Prize: US $1,500
- 3rd Prize: US $500
- BB Student Award: US $500
- BB Green Award: US $500
Competition is open to all. No professional qualification is required. Design proposals can be developed individually or by teams (4 team members maximum). Correspondence with organizers must be conducted in English; All information submitted by participants must be in English.
