Sala Beckett in Barcelona is a cultural space dedicated to theatre, experimentation and training, whose work is inspired by the legacy of Samuel Beckett. In November 2016 the institution moved its headquarters into the former industrial district of Poblenou, in a new stunning space designed by Flores & Prats architects.
The result of a careful and attentive conversion of a 1920s workers’ cooperative building, adapted today for a new cultural program, the new Sala Beckett, one of the major projects by the Spanish duo, obtained major praise by the international press. An additional confirmation of the relevance of the project came in 2018 when Flores & Prats were invited to take part in the 16th International Architecture Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia, curated by Yvonne Farrell and Shelley McNamara, as part of the main exhibition. There, they presented a full scale replica of a fragment of Sala Beckett: a piece that could be inhabited by the public, offering, in Venice, the spatial experience and a documentation of the design process.
