ETH Zurich architecture program
Strengths

A stable of world-leading programs and professors (including Alfredo Brillembourg and Hubert Klumpner, founders of the socially proactive Urban-Think Tank atelier in Caracas, Venezuela, at the forefront of architectural development in some of the world’s most in-need slums)

Overview

The Swiss Institute of Technology’s highly touted architecture programs follow the two-tiered Bologna process, meaning that its Bachelor and Master degrees are designed to be pursued consecutively. Undergrads in the BSc are immersed in the fundamentals on three fronts: design and construction, engineering disciplines and historical and social disciplines. Masters students move toward developing their own approaches to architecture by working on larger projects. The architecture department affords access to many of ETH’s top-drawer resources, such as NCCR Digital Fabrication (a Swiss initiative to lead the world in digital architectural technologies and physical building processes), the transdisciplinary Future Cities Laboratory in Singapore and the interdisciplinary ETH Wohnforum-ETH CASE research centre, which studies the evolution of architecture within the context of the built environment, technological developments and social and cultural changes.
