Overview
Pratt’s venerable Brooklyn setting – 1880s brick and brownstone buildings in a contemporary sculpture garden – belies the state-of-the-art facilities and studios inside. In the rigorous Industrial Design program, offered through the School of Design, learning is driven by a methodology of three-dimensional form generation, a rarefied and elaborate system developed in the 1950s by Pratt professors Alexander and Rowena Reed Kostellow. Studies end with studios that allow students to home in on the specialty of their choice, from furniture, product or exhibition design to shoes and athletic gear. MID students also have the chance to spend second year in Tokyo and London.
