Overview
Established in 1951 and relaunched in 2012, the RCA’s Interior Design program within the School of Architecture has garnered top position in the QS rankings for three years running. In first year, students examine the “proximities” (exploring existing sites), “inhabitations” (ways of occupying space) and “identities” (their material personification) of inside space; the following year, with the fundamentals under their belts, they must hone their ideas by looking at their final project “through the lens of a platform: a space that declares a distinct proposition about the interior,” says program head professor Graeme Brooker. Coursework is reinforced by valuable connections in the industry: all students are assigned practice mentors (from noted firms around London) and meet with them several times a year.
